Alma Jabs got her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Winnipeg and has had her private practice for at least 14 years. She has a certification for Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Also, she’s a member of organizations such as the Canadian Registry for Marriage and Family Therapists (RMFT) and the Ontario Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (OAMFT).

Alma uses her knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and a model on self-leadership to conduct individual therapy. 2) Paula Bell

Paula Bell has been working as a therapist for nearly two decades. In January 2019, she began accepting clients on a full-time schedule. Apart from being a registered social worker, Paula has a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. Moreover, she’s registered at the College of Psychotherapists in Ontario, Canada.

3) Dave Neary

Dave Neary got his Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. Also, he has counselling certification from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Dave has worked as a mental health worker and is a registered psychotherapist in Ontario. Since he was a secondary school teacher for two decades, he has a distinct understanding of what people at that age go through.

Dave isn’t restrictive when it comes to clients. He’s worked with 17-year-old teenagers and elderly people alike. 4) Melissa Gauthier

Melissa Gauthier is an excellent psychotherapist. She’s part of the College of Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario (CRPO) and has at least 18 years of relevant experience. Plus, Melissa earned her certification as an addiction counsellor from the Canadian Addiction Counsellor Certification Federation (CACCF).

There are three areas Melissa concentrates on. First, she offers to counsel on shame and anxiety, which also include guilt and fear. The second section is developmental trauma and PTSD, which involves the analysis of one’s family and core beliefs. Lastly, Melissa also helps clients cope with addiction. Her approach to treating her clients involves CBT, EFT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Family Systems Therapy.

Each counselling session here usually lasts around 50 minutes. Thankfully, you don’t have to pay an hourly rate. Instead, Melissa Gauthier offers a session fee that costs at least $120. If you have an insurance plan with Blue Cross, Manulife or Sunlife, you can use that to pay for your counselling session.

5) Kim Lawrence

Kim Lawrence has been providing counselling services since 2006 and has an impressive educational background to boot. She has an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Queen’s University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Carleton University. Also, she’s a well-respected member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

She helps individuals and couples deal with a variety of issues: anger management, anxiety, depression, divorce,  grief and loss, parenting, physical abuse, stress, relationships, sexual abuse, self-esteem, and separation. While Kim does employ cognitive behavioural therapy, she also uses other approaches such as MBCT and Narrative Therapy.

Each one-hour session costs between $140 and $200. If you wish to cancel the session, you need to do so at least 24 hours before the appointment. If there’s an emergency, you may still cancel it at a later time. If you don’t ask for a cancellation, you’d have to pay the full price.

6) Shannon Collins

Shannon Collins got her degree in Psychology in 1998 and her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2005. She took both of them at McGill University. Apart from being a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), Shannon is also registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Also, she’s been working as a counsellor for at least 16 years.

The esteemed counsellor helps people who have anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. She also helps caregivers cope with stress. 7) Janice Hillier

Janice Hillier has been working as a social worker since 2003 and she has two degrees from McMaster University: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work. For her Master’s Degree, she has one for Social Work at Dalhousie University. Also, Janice is a member of both the Ontario Association of Social Workers and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Janice serves clients who are at least 16 years old. 8) Erin Merry

Erin Merry has been working as a therapist for over a decade. She’s a trauma therapist who has sufficient training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Likewise, she is experienced in applying both Recent Traumatic Events Protocol (RTEP) and the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). 9) Mike Melles

Mike Melles has been working as a therapist for 15 years. He earned his Master of Education in Counselling at Acadia University. He’s a registered psychotherapist who started his career at Resolve Counselling Services from 2004 right until 2019. While he caters to individual clients, he’s more skilled in couple counselling. Now, he has his private practice.

10) Holly Behiels

Holly Behiels is a registered psychotherapist with an impressive educational background. First, she has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology. Plus, she earned a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. She’s a certified Canadian counsellor and has had training in evaluating domestic violence and power imbalances in family units.

The therapist uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for couples therapy. If you have communication problems with your partner or there are intimacy issues, approach Holly. She’s also worked with clients dealing with infidelity, stress, and parenting. Apart from CBT, Holly uses approaches such as the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Of course, Holly also does family therapy and individual therapy.

11) Whitney A. Babcock

Whitney A. Babcock has a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. She spent 13 years helping students and staff at Queen’s University through counselling and creating workshops. Whitney is a registered psychotherapist who also worked with the Canadian Mental Health Association for a year. She served as a board member for Epilepsy Kingston and Telephone Aid Line Kingston (TALK).

Whitney works not only with individuals but also groups and organizations.
