What are the options for skating in Kingston, Ontario Canada?
If you are one of those folks that like to wear boots with slivers on steel on the sole, and glide over frozen water, there are many places for skating in Kingston.
For simplicity, we have broken them down into Outdoor Rinks and Indoor Rinks. Many of the Kingston rinks will have organized skating for hockey practice and hockey games. Most, too, offer public skating during designated hours.
Skating on Kingston Outdoor Rinks
The first outdoor rink for skating in Kingston that comes to mind is the seasonal one at Springer Square, right in downtown Kingston and immediately behind Kingston’s City Hall. It’s open for skating between 8 am until 10 pm every day, weather permitting. This outdoor Kingston rink is for leisure skating only. No hockey sticks or playing hockey are allowed. Skating is free. Just show up with your skates!
The photo was taken in December of 2012, and before the annual thaw in January 2013 during which the temperature in Kingston reached 10 deg. C (50 F) for a few days, wrecking almost all outdoor skating in Kingston.
Here is a webcam, provided by the City of Kingston, showing rink activity at Springer Square in the winter, and in the summer, the Marketplace.
