Are there splash pads in Kingston Ontario, Canada. Yes there are, and here’s why.
Lake Ontario has a marvellous weather moderating effect for Kingston residents and visitors. The summer months can be very hot and very sunny. Sometimes those gentle zephyrs from Lake Ontario, wafting over and cooling Kingston during the hot summer months abate, and then, the concrete corridors of Kingston can get very very hot.
Enter the splash pads in Kingston. The are oases of cool water to bathe hot tootsies and whatever else you can dunk on a steamy hot day in a Kingston, Ontario summer.
There are, at last count, there are eight splash pads – similar to the one shown above – available for use by the public in the greater Kingston area. Most operate from late May through to the beginning of September, and if the air temperature is hot, they splash water from around 9:00 a.m. until dusk, daily.
The splash pads in Kingston can be basic water fountains, or more elaborate, with a host of water-squirting towers in bright colours. Some are adjacent to swimming pools with slides, as can be seen in the background of the photo above, and many offer the visitor adjacent playground equipment for toddlers, one of which is seen below.
Typically splash pads in Kingston are open access. Some provide change and washroom facilities. Some are adjacent to additional facilities. None appear to have any charge for use, though some may require paid parking nearby.
